The visible problem may not be the one holding you.
You already know what hasn’t moved—the income, the business, the relationship, the conflict, the decision you can’t make.
What you may not know is where the obstruction actually begins.
The Emperor Index reads three gates in a fixed causal order
—Stance, Wound, and Capacity
—and identifies the first one that isn’t open.
That is your START HERE.

Thirteen statements. Three gate scores. One place to begin.
What the Index reads
You come with a visible conflict. But the visible conflict may be downstream of something you cannot yet see in the position.
The Index identifies the internal blockage so you can begin working where the obstruction actually starts.
Three gates:
Stance → Wound → Capacity
Each gate reads SHUT, STUCK, or OPEN.
Your starting gate is the first one in that causal order that isn’t open.
GATE ONE · STANCE
Who is holding your position?
Stance measures whether you state the number, the answer, the boundary, and the decision you actually hold—or adjust them according to how someone else might respond.
It reads whether you trust your own judgment, say what is true without softening it, and remain the same person when the room changes.
Stance comes first because the one standing decides everything downstream.
If Stance isn’t open, the work doesn’t begin with more effort.
It begins by taking the position back
GATE TWO · WOUND
Where is the opening—and which way is it running?
Wound measures where time, attention, labor, access, or value leaves without a clean agreement.
Sometimes you pour: you give more than was asked, paid for, or required.
Sometimes you are drained: others bring you what belongs to them or occupy your attention without your agreement.
Sometimes both are happening.
The Index names the direction because capacity cannot be built while value is still leaving through the opening.
GATE THREE · CAPACITY
Can you hold what you say you want?
What you want may be obtainable. But seeing it is not the same as having the structure to hold it.
People often move the moment they see the possibility—before their decisions, routines, and tolerances can support it. When the attempt fails, they begin carrying that failure into the next one.
Capacity isn’t a leap. It is built in repetitions:
The ask made.
The refusal held.
The misfit released.
The next attempt completed.
You don’t jump to the version of yourself who holds it. You rise through the decisions that make the position real.
Why the order matters
The gates don’t compete. They depend on one another.
A low Capacity score can look urgent. But if Stance is shut, building harder will not touch the upstream cause.
You cannot build capacity through a leak, and you cannot see the leak while the wrong self is leading.
That is why the Index does not simply select your lowest score.
It finds the first gate in the causal order that isn’t open.
That is where the work begins.
When all three gates are open, the position is held, the opening is closed, and capacity is no longer being built through a leak.
What your reading gives you
The Index gives you:
A score for all three gates
A SHUT, STUCK, or OPEN state for each gate
Your clearly marked START HERE
The behavior keeping that gate in place
What the mechanism is costing you
The first move for beginning the work
A downloadable reading you can keep
This is not a personality test.
It does not tell you who you are.
It shows you where your present behavior stops supporting the position you say you want.
The 30-day movement
Your first reading establishes the position.
From there, you work the gate through focused teachings, direct moves, and check-ins built around the obstruction the Index identified.
After 30 days, you return to the instrument and take it again.
The retest does not ask whether you became a different person.
It shows you what moved, what held, and where the work continues.
Stop treating every obstruction like an effort problem.
Find the first gate that isn’t open.
Work there first.
Return in 30 days and see what moved.
Take the Index. Read the position. Work the gate. Retest.
