“I want to be seen. And I want to be safe being seen.”
Opening preview, pulled from 48:17 in the reading
Hey, Emperor. Sit with me for a moment.
You lead. You command. You solve. You protect. If something happens to the people you love, you already know what you’re going to do. But let me ask you something. When somebody wants to take care of you, do you know how to let them finish?
Or do you get up, take the thing out of their hands, and tell them you’ve got it?
Stay with that for a second. Because I want to show you where that move comes from, what it costs you in intimacy, and how somebody can get close enough to use it. Then I want to ask you what you actually want. You might have spent years getting exactly what you asked for without ever asking for the thing you needed.
You built somewhere safe. Did you ever get to feel safe there?
I talk about the man who builds a whole structure around himself. I want you to look at what that structure does for him.
As a boy, maybe there was a side of him that was soft, imaginative, affectionate, or a little wild. Maybe he wanted to be comforted. Maybe he liked being silly and somebody was always telling him to settle down. Maybe the second he showed a feeling, somebody made him feel stupid for having it. So he got good at reading the room and deciding which version of himself could come out.
Then he grew up and built a room he could control.
Editorial Note
Safe Being Seen is part of the Basira Intuition Full Moon Special. In this decode, I speak about my own experiences and use intuitive interpretation and symbolic imagery to explore what happens when intimacy touches an old wound. Some scenes are dramatized. Where I share impressions about events I couldn’t independently verify, I’m sharing how I understood them at the time.
Emperor, when somebody sees a part of you that you usually keep private, pay attention to what they do with that trust. Especially when you disagree, when you say no, or when you have nothing to give.
