The door she never knew
Hey, Emperor. Sit with me for a moment.
Imagine being told, for most of your life, that a certain door was closed to you. You learn to live with that. You quit asking who was on the other side. You figure out how to get through the hard years without expecting a call, an invitation, or somebody to say, Come home. There’s a place for you here.
Then one day you find out the people on the other side had a version of your absence too. They thought you didn’t want to come. Some barely knew you existed. And by the time you find out who they are, another woman has been welcomed by your name.
That is the case I want you to sit with under this moon. In this reading, I see a woman kept from her own family so that somebody else could step into her place and claim an inheritance. The person who sets it in motion understands exactly what it means to go without a father’s recognition. She uses that knowledge to keep somebody else from receiving it. The inheritance is what she stands to take. The jealousy tells us why she needed this woman to go without.
Emperor, follow the sequence with me. First somebody makes sure the real daughter doesn’t know where to go. Then somebody gives the family a woman they can recognize in her place. By the time the money comes into view, the family may already have spent years living inside the conditions that make the theft possible.
